Public Sector Media Ltd
Carbon Reduction Plan

Introduction
At Public Sector Media we are committed to fostering a sustainable future with strong policies on sustainable development. Our carbon reduction plan fits into this strategy; to guide our practices to reduce our environmental impact, promote social responsibility, and contribute to the well-being of the communities we serve. This policy serves as a framework for integrating sustainability into our operations, decision-making processes, and client relationships.

1. Business Origins
From inception in 2023, the business model was set up with the aim of embedding minimum carbon use in our behaviours. In May 2023 the business started with 2 staff members, as we are growing, we are regularly reviewing our practices to ensure minimum carbon use.

These include:

  • Working from home
  • 1 x company car
  • Utilise public transport where possible
  • Online business
  • Team meetings are held online
  • Adopted cloud-based systems to reduce on-premises energy use for everyone in the business
  • A regional team, based regionally to limit travel – public transport a maximum of 40 minutes’ drive time.
  • No printing or paper use (except in very rare circumstances)

2. Commitment to Achieving Net Zero

As an SME, the UK Government Procurement Policy Note (PPN) 06/21 requires us achieve Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions commit to a by 2050. Public Sector Media Ltd is committed to achieving this goal by 2035.

3. Baseline Emissions Footprint
Baseline Year: 2023 (Company founded 11th May 2023)
In this baseline year, there were 2 people in the business.

Baseline Emissions:
– Scope 1: 2.8 tCO2e – 1 x company car = 4000 miles per year
– Scope 2: 0.0 tCO2e – No collective office
– Scope 3: 0.6 tCO2e – Rare alternative transport

4. Current Emissions Report
Reporting Year: April 2024 – April 2025
For this period there were 4 people in the business with the same model, therefore the only emissions we can accurately account for are occasional car use and home office use.Current Emissions:
– Scope 1: 2.8 tCO2e – 1 x company car = 4000 miles per year
– Scope 2: 0.0 tCO2e – No collective office
– Scope 3: 1.3 tCO2e – Rare staff use of privately owned cars and public transport for in-person meetings.

Notes:

  • We worked with Make it Wild, who advised our CO2 emissions to be under 10 Tonnes which we offset with 20 Tonnes to cover over and above our emissions from 2023 to the present day by planting trees.
  • We remain committed to a no paper/printing policy and have collectively printed 14 sheets over the last year.

5. Emissions Reduction Targets and Measures

From 2024, moving into 2025 – 2026, we have grown again to 8 staff members. We understand that as the business grows in staff numbers, our carbon input will grow accordingly. We will continue to reduce emissions beyond growth year-on-year through the following measures:

  • Anna Crockett (Director) to move to 100% renewable energy
  • Continue remote working and essential travel only
  • Promote digital-first campaigns to reduce physical media waste
  • Engage suppliers on sustainability and carbon reporting
  • Implement energy-efficient practices in any operations
  • Remain committed to a no paper/printing policy
  • Build on our Scope 3 data by factoring in the emissions for each team members working hours home usage
  • Continue to work with Make It Wild to find more ways to offset above our company carbon usage.

5. Carbon Reduction Projects
We have implemented the following projects:

  • Off set our full CO2 emissions by planting trees (Make It Wild)
  • Continue with a home-based working policy to maintain low levels of commuting with a larger team
  • Maintaining Cloud-based systems and reviewing procedures to reduce energy use for everyone in the business

6. Governance and Responsibility
Carbon reduction is overseen by a senior manager (Helen Roughley) who reports progress to the directors (Anna Crockett & Rachael Parry-Jones). We review our emissions annually and update our Carbon Reduction Plan accordingly.

Staff comments

“I have gone from travelling 86 miles a day commuting for my previous job, to rarely filling up with fuel! The home-based working policy at Public Sector Media has increased my productivity and reduced my contributions to carbon emissions!”

“I live in Liverpool city centre, where a lot of Public Sector Media’s work is conducted. I can walk to most in-person meetings, and I am close to public transport links, so we have been able to reduce to only having 1 car in the family!”
